Dangerous Rose is kicking off the 2025 edition of Winter Party Festival with a DJ set that, she teases, will deliver some "real Miami girl sh*t."
As a headliner opening this week-long festival happening across different venues, Dangerous Rose is determined to bring not only energy, love, and joy, but also to showcase her talents and represent Black trans women in a mainstream space for the LGBTQ+ community like Winter Party.
Between performing at the Boiler Room and making waves at Horse Meat Disco, Dangerous Rose is a "trapno" pioneer bringing all of that momentum to the Winter Party crowds in Miami. One thing is certain: the doll is ready to give!
Out: What does it mean for you to be performing at Winter Party Festival 2025, an event for LGBTQ+ people during such difficult times?
Dangerous Rose: I want us to come together and share focus on what's truly going on — and that is, really focus on and expand the horizons of performance art, but be universal within my sound, within music, within being a voice for my community.
You're a pioneer of a music subgenre known as "trapno." Can you explain the origins and meaning of "trapno" to people who aren't familiar?
So, when I say trapno, I mean when you listen to old school Gucci Mane or Flo Milli, the old-school bangers. Three 6 Mafia. Some real hood, gutter sh*t, but mixing it with techno. It just hits me in a way that I have to bring it to the forefront.
You had the chance to DJ as the opening act for Beyoncé during the New Orleans date of the Renaissance World Tour. What was that experience like?
Oh, that was such a fab luxury experience. I was a woman who was born in New Orleans. And, you know, my family's generation Creole. It was fun. It was fierce. Something that I've strived for. To DJ at the Superdome, especially for Queen B? It was super monumental and super powerful. As a Black trans woman and a dancer growing up, I was so inspired by Beyoncé. And here I am, opening for her.
She dipped in town for as much as she could, for as long as she could. I grew up between New Orleans and Miami, so I saw it a lot. I grew up with her. It was a very surreal experience to be living it.
What's your favorite part about performing in South Florida?
The community knows how to pull up for the doll. I've been excluded from spaces and big time clubs in Miami… and I'm not gonna name names, but there's some big-time clubs that have been very threatened by the doll. I can't sit here and say I'm offended, but at the same time, I'm bringing something that needs to be known. I'm a force to be reckoned with, and when my sound hits the f*cking floor, these b*tches are going to be f*cking shaking.
Let me just get back here, because they'll book the cis white woman DJ — I'm not gonna name names — but to get me on the lineup, I want them to give me my f*cking flowers. I want them to actually give me what I'm owed. Because these gays, they're not deserving of this Black f*cking fierce goddess. Especially when it comes to queer culture, absolutely not.
Being on this lineup is a big deal because there can be so much misogyny when it comes to women and trans people in the community. It's still not as accepted as it should be.
What can the Winter Party visitors expect from your set this year?
Well, energy, first and foremost. I want it to be pure. This Winter Party set is gonna give real Miami girl sh*t. You know, 305 Black girl realness. But also, at the same time, I want it to give pure love, community, joy, fulfillment, and the energy of just excellence. Profound energy, mostly. With everything that's going on in the world right now… it's dark and bleak. But I'm going to be that girl — the Black trans soldier for this f*cking revolution.
I want to strive for the young girls, especially the Black girls, especially growing up in the deep South. We were shunned growing up… literally. I had to leave my own town to blow up, you understand what I'm saying? So, now coming back, building my community, and trying to have this presence of greatness, it's just so surreal.
This is what I've strived for. This is what I've literally burned my back to be doing and coming back home to do this. It's actually putting a tear to my f*cking eye because I'm just like, wow. Now our flowers are going to be f*cking served. It's a full-circle moment, for sure. I can't wait to just expel my energy and my witchcraft brujería into the dance floor, girl. It's about to give.
