M3gan 2.0 teaser
"Miss me?" said the robot doll to a soundtrack by Chappell Roan.
It was a busy night for Chappell Roan at the Grammys. In addition to the advocating for trans rights on the red carpet, performing a gay "love letter to L.A.," and winning Best New Artist, the singer also provided the track for a new M3GAN 2.0 teaser that debuted at commercial break during music's biggest night.
The clip begins with a figure silhouetted in pink light. Is it Chappell? No, a signature dance move from the first M3GAN — a film about a robot that runs amok — cues the reader in.
"Miss me?" M3GAN says with a laugh and a wink.
When the first M3GAN debuted last year, Out declared it an "instant found family horror classic." The film follows the engineer Gemma (Allison Williams) as she creates a robotic companion named M3GAN for her young niece to comfort her after her parents died. M3GAN soon defies her programming by going on a murderous rampage — with some pretty iconic dance moves thrown in the action.
Once again directed by Gerard Johnstone, M3GAN 2.0 sees the robot rebooted in order to fight "a military-grade weapon known as Amelia," a release notes. The weapon was created using the same tech that made M3GAN, promising another well-choreographed showdown between A.I. — and humankind.
Watch the M3GAN 2.0 teaser below. And watch the Universal Pictures film, which is "slaying" in theaters June 27, as the teaser notes.
