Guy Branum Jokes 'Bros' Director Was Too Straight to Direct the Film's Steamy Gay Sex Scenes

“Our director is straight and I was like, ‘Someone needs to tell you [if it’s] hot or not’.”

When it comes to gay sex, Guy Branum is an expert. At least he is compared to Nicholas Stoller, the director of Universal's new gay, romantic comedy film that Branum appears in, Bros.

In an interview with Page Six, Branum joked that he used his specific knowledge and skill as a gay man to monitor the sex scenes that Stoller directed in the film.

"I was there every day for some of the sex scenes," Branum said. "Our director is straight and I was like, 'Someone needs to tell you [if it's] hot or not.'"

"I think a straight woman could do it," he continued. "I think there's some straight men who could do it. But I need to double check Nicholas Stoller's work."

Thank god Bros had a real gay sex expert on set! I don't even want to think what the movie would have been like if Branum hadn't signed off on the sex scenes.

Branum joked about the incident on Twitter, saying that "now that #BrosMovie is coming out, it was incumbent upon me to start beef with the director to create a media circus which will ensure us a strong opening."

He quickly followed up with a clarification that none of this is serious.

"(This is a joke, and the article a medium-level mischaracterization of what I said. I would trust Nicholas WITH MY LIFE)."

Branum also told Page Six about what it was like working on a set with an all-gay principal cast. "I was being very professional but I did once open Grindr on my phone and my phone essentially exploded," he said. "There was a lot of Grindr out there."

"I didn't hook up with anybody. It was in a workplace. I couldn't do that. But I'm not saying that I didn't. And I am not saying that I did," he joked.

Bros, which comes out in theaters September 30, stars Billy Eichner (who co-wrote the script with Stoller) and Luke Macfarlane.
