UFC President Wants To Go To Russia

Does Dana White live under a rock?

UFC President Dana White has an impressive lack of awareness.

You see, White announced last night that he plans to travel to Russia to investigate expanding his violent sport's international appeal.. But, wait, doesn't White know that Russia recently enacted some of the world's most intrusive and homophobic laws? Hasn't White, a man in the sports industry, heard about the protests over the Olympic Games being held in the Russian resort town of Sochi, and how gay Olympians are being forced to either stay in the closet or go to jail? Doesn't White read the news, listen to the radio, watch television, or talk to other human beings on this planet? Apparently the answer to all of these questions is "no."

"I know nothing about it," White said of Russia's anti-gay laws last night, after reporters wondered why he chose now of all times to go to Russia. But you can be sure White will learn plenty about it now, especially since he himself has previously be criticized for anti-gay rhetoric: White came under fire in 2009 after he called a journalist a "fucking faggot." White later said that remark was his sole career regret, and the UFC has since created an LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination policy, a policy that would be illegal in Russia. White and the UFC also suspended announcer Matt Mitrione for anti-trans comments directed at Fallon Fox earlier this year. That suspension and Fallon Fox herself would also be illegal in Russia.
