For the second year running, a member of the LGBTQ community will host the Academy Awards. Taking the torch from selfie-queen Ellen DeGeneres, Variety reports that Hedwig and the Angry Inch star and Gone Girl actor Neil Patrick Harris will host the next Oscars ceremony. The event, which will air live in 225 countries, takes place February 22, 2015.
Hosting the Oscars is a tough job--just ask Seth MacFarlane, James Franco & Anne Hathaway, or Jon Stewart. It's a sweet gig, but you've got to maintain the show's energy for the entirety of the broadcast. Ellen proved that she could work the crowd and keep viewers at home interested last year, but it seems she's reluctant to take a third crack at hosting. NPH knows how award shows run--he's hosted the Emmys and the Tonys in the past--and has the showmanship to keep us interested, even when they're running through the bullshit categories (I'm looking at you, Sound Mixing).
We just wish he'd wear something snazzy like this number.
Neil seems over joyed at the development, and it seems it's the last thing on his bucket list.
