Natalie Wood's death might not have been an accident after all.
The "West Side Story" star famously disappeared from a yacht off the coast of Santa Catalina Island near California in 1981, but now the ship's captain has stepped forward to say that her husband, actor Robert Wagner--whom Wood married twice!--might have had more of a hand in Wood's vanishing act than previously thought.
Dennis Davern, who was helming the ship during that Thanksgiving weekend, appeared on Today Friday morning and revealed that after Wood went overboard, Wagner made it clear that "We're not going to look too hard, we're not going to turn on the search light, we're not going to notify anybody right at the moment."
Davern went on to admit that he had lied to authorities about the situation, something he now regrets.
"I made some terrible decisions and mistakes," he said. "I did lie on a report years ago. I made mistakes by not telling the honest truth in a police report."
But let's be extra clear about this: Does Davern think that Wagner was to blame for his movie-star wife's untimely demise?
"Yes I would say so."
