Bat For Lashes talks Kate Bush, drag queens, and her evil, blonde alter ego

I was lucky enough to hang out with Bat For Lashes -- aka Natasha Kahn -- when she was in town last month to play the Bowery Ballroom. Because the Bowery inflicts a steep fee on anyone who dares to venture to shoot a video in their gorgeous venue, we took to the streets and filmed the interview in a park just a few blocks away.

Contending with the legions of transients, elderly Chinese folks napping on benches, and cops in the park -- all with the potential to ruin our video -- not to mention the honking horns and the vintage Dr. Dre pouring from someone's open window across the street, I was worried that one) Natasha would be annoyed with our location and give a less than stellar interview; and two) one of the aforementioned park goers would wander into the shot or start asking us questions in the middle of the shoot.

But -- as you can see -- neither of those things happened (well -- there was one old man who was painting in the park and decided that the minute we started filming he should come and sit on the edge of the bench along with Natasha, but he was more concerned with his art than he was with her). Instead she was sweet, affable, intelligent, and really up for anything. If you want to read the full interview with did with Natasha, head over to Out .com.
