Dorothy is my favorite Golden Girl. I know some of you might think it's blasphemy to even try and choose, and while I love them all (more than most of my extended family) it's Dorothy that I love the most. I think it's probably because she reminds me a little of myself -- prickly on the outside but soft and squishy on the inside. She doesn't suffer fools and still, there are those moments once every few episodes when she scuttles out from under her shell and turns all gooey and vulnerable and it becomes apparent that she just wants a little validation and love.
Bea Arthur is the comic genius who made Dorothy what she was and turned a flat, static sitcom character into someone we laugh at, laugh with, and in the end, wish we could have as a pal and a confidante. You will be sorely missed, lady.
