Southern Decadence

Team_gina
Is Rainbow the next Confederate Flag? Could be, because there's a big gay rumbling in the Deep South. MondoHomo Dirty South 2007, the South's debut queer-centric festival, kicks off June 27 in Atlanta to coincide with the progressive U.S. Social Forum. Hoping to infuse U.S.S.F. with queer voices and a dirty good time, MondoHomo promises five nights of indie music, burlesque, spoken word, dance parties, arts, film, and DIY-decadencethink of it as Homo-a-GoGo's Southern cousin. Each night offers multiple events at locally owned venues curated around such themes as Speak Your Mondo, MondoHop vs. Mondo Electro, and Mondo Moxie Cabaret. Highlights include Durham's electro-indie Ex-Members (from the Butchies, Team Dresch, and Gerty!), the 70's trans punk sub-icon Jayne County, Seattle's hilarious white-girl rapper-poseurs Team Gina, and Atlanta's own spoken-word maven Athens Boys Choir. The U.S. Social Forum may hope to foment a national movement, but MondoHomo is inciting a revolution you can dance to. For more information and tickets, visit www.mondohomo.com.
