In the new W Magazine Best Performance issue, May December star Natalie Portman revealed a story from her youth that will sound all-too familiar for many of us.
When W asked Portman about her first kiss, she shared that it happened at theater camp, one of the most classic gay first kiss sights.
“At summer camp, on a dare,” she said of the kiss. “It was theater camp, so he came out the next year.”
It’s a tale as old as time.
Last year, Theater Camp star Ben Platt shared a similar story, but from the other side of the coin. In talking with Rolling Stone about his co-star and co-writer Molly Gordon and their life-long friendship, he also revealed that he came out to her when she confessed to having a crush on him at theater camp.
“She definitely had a crush on me, she will admit. And I thought I did too. Because when you’re a young gay kid, and you’re obsessed with your girl best friend, you’re like, ‘This must be what it means when you like someone,’ he recalled. “But ultimately, I was very gay, unfortunately. And also fortunately. And Molly had to have an adjustment period of getting over that, which began with her telling everybody that I was gay.”
W’s Best Performance issue also features Julianne Moore, Colman Domingo, Greta Lee, Ryan Gosling, Robert Downey Jr., Lily Gladstone, Nicolas Cage, Charles Melton, Zac Efron, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jodie Foster, and Margot Robbie.
