David Corenswet is trading his Superman cape for a football jersey in the new film Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story.
Corenswet set the internet on fire last year when a behind-the-scenes photo on the set of Superman showed off his impressive Man of Steel bulge.
The 32-year-old star is going viral once again, but this time for a shirtless photo of him running in a still from his upcoming football biopic.
The film follows the life story of New York Giants running back John Tuggle, who was dubbed Mr. Irrelevant after he was the very last player selected in the 1983 draft. Tuggle died just three years later after a battle with cancer.
"Can grace and dignity and humor and love transform failure into its own kind of success? These are the questions I thought were asked by John's story and I think are asked of each of us at various points in life," Corenswet said in an interview with People. "I love a reminder to smile at the person in front of me, or smile to myself, and just marvel at the reality of the moment. I think John served as that kind of reminder to a lot of people."
The first-look image that has been spreading across social media shows Corenswet running shirtless in just a pair of jeans as he trains to get into peak condition for the NFL.
"How can a man with this beautiful physique be called ‘Mr Irrelevant,'" one person commented on X.
"I dunno he looks pretty super to me man," someone else wrote.
"I’m shaking in excitement," another person said.
The film also stars Isabel May (Scream 7) as Corenswet’s love interest Katie and Michael Shannon (Knives Out, Man of Steel) as New York Giants coach Bill Parcells, and is being directed by Jonathan Levine (Long Shot, Warm Bodies).
Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story premieres in theaters on Friday, December 25, 2026.
