Is Colman Domingo coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe??!
The Oscar-nominated Rustin star is one of the hottest actors in Hollywood, and now, fans are wondering if that means he’s going to be joining one of the biggest franchises in the world: the MCU.
Jonathan Majors was set to make his mark as the next big bad in the MCU, Kang the Conqueror, a time and universe hopping tyrant, after having already appeared in projects like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki as the character.
However, after he was found guilty of misdemeanor assault in the third degree recklessly causing physical injury, as well as harassment in the second degree against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, he was dropped by Marvel Studios, who has since been scrambling trying to figure out what to do.
One option would be to scrap the Kang idea and find another multiverse level threat like Galactus or Dr. Doom to be the new big villain of the MCU. Still, others are saying that, especially due to his multiversal nature, it would make more sense to simply recast Kang. That’s where Domingo comes in.
In a new cover story for Vanity Fair, Domingo was asked about recent rumors that he could step in for Majors.
At first, Domingo admitted that he first heard about the rumor while at home on his couch.
“I was like, What rumor? Who? Where is this coming from? I just didn't think about it,” he said. “The next day I woke up, it’s everywhere.”
“My team has had conversations with Marvel about some aspect of the MCU for years,” he added. “Do I know this [rumor] to be true or not? I actually don’t know. I feel like my team doesn’t bring me something unless it’s real. So I don’t know. I could be in conversation, but I’m not sure. I would welcome a conversation around it.”
“Whatever they’re working out with Jonathan [Majors] and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane, whatever that is,” he added. “There’s hearsay, there’s conversations, but I’m not even sure because I feel like nothing comes to me until something’s real. But I’d be down with it.”
We can respect that Domingo wants to build his own legacy in the MCU. Perhaps instead of Kang, he could play another villain, like the previously mentioned Dr. Doom. Or maybe, considering the declining popularity of the MCU movies, he can pick a different project that would better show off his amazing talents. Either way, we're excited for what the future holds for Colman and his career!
