Hannah Gadsby is canceling her upcoming shows, but is keeping her sense of humor.
The Australian comedian was set to travel Europe on her new Body of Work tour after wrapping the Australian leg, but unfortunately, she has to cancel. She was also set to do an American leg of the tour after Europe.
Gadsby made a video on her Instagram announcing that she had to cancel her upcoming shows in Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris, and Milan because she slipped on ice and broke her leg in two places. She's now using a wheelchair while she heals.
"I went to Iceland and discovered why it's called Ice-land," Gadsby said in the video. "I fell over and I've broken my leg in two places. I've had plates and screws put in. I'm in a lot of pain."
Even injured, Gadsby kept her sense of humor, joking about how appropriate it was that she slipped on ice in Iceland of all places and showing off her growing wheelchair navigation skills. How was she able to keep this light attitude?
"This cheer that you're detecting right now? This pep?" she continued. "Drugs. And they're running out."
"The shows must not go on, I will not break another leg," she promised. "I'm okay, don't panic. Watch your step, stay safe, and I'll update you again soon."
"I'm terribly sorry to miss you this January, but do not fret -- the show will actually go on," she clarified in the caption to the video. "Just later in the year. Stay tuned for updates...ok bye!"
Apart from this new comedy special, Body of Work, Gadsby had a wonderful personal year. She also announced that she married her partner Jenney Shamash last year.
"I would like to introduce all y'all to Jenney Shamash. She is a talented producer extraordinaire. She is very funny and is really talented at reciting facts. It is a joy to behold," she wrote at the time. "We got married in January and we are very chuffed about it. For the record: this is me gushing."
