“I wish you were full of more love instead of being incredibly bitter.”
Saying he wanted to get a few things off his chest, Tan France had a stern message for the haters criticizing his impending fatherhood via surrogacy. The Queer Eye Fab 5 member announced last week via Instagram he and husband Rob would become proud parents this summer. The two were overjoyed with the news and weren't about to let a hateful few spoil the good times, so France posted a story to Instagram to set the record straight.
In a message posted to Instagram stories according Queerty, France opened by thanking the well-wishers who left notes of encouragement on the original baby announcement post.
"The majority of comments have been so, so lovely," France said. "So lovely."
There were some other "really nasty" comments, France revealed, but he wasn't about to let them bring him or his husband down from their euphoria.
"You really can't knock us down," France continued. "I don't feel the thing that you clearly want me to feel. We feel just so happy and so grateful and we're full of so much love. I wish you were full of more love instead of being incredibly bitter."
France also called out those who questioned the use of a surrogate to carry and deliver the baby, saying the couple should have adopted instead.
"If you're so upset about me having my own children, you can adopt," France said, calling adoption "a wonderful thing to be able to do," while also advising critics they "don't know our story. You don't know why we are going through the surrogacy process instead of adopting."
And just to make sure he addressed all the haters, France denied accusations he exploited a woman's body, saying he "didn't just grab someone off the street and kidnap her and get her pregnant" to bear his child.
"This was somebody that we care about very much, who wanted to do this for us, who was generous enough to help us have our absolute dream and to raise a family," he said, promising that "she wanted to do this" and they're taking "very good care of her."
France shared the joyful announcement last week in a heartfelt yet hilarious post, showing him shirtless, cupping his pec, with a ultrasound image photoshopped over his belly.
"So happy to finally share the WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!" France wrote, later clarifying "No, I'm not pregnant, despite this VERY realistic pic."
Earlier this year Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris announced they had adopted their daughter earlier this year. Anderson Cooper announced the birth of his son via surrogacy last year.
