Jade Sotomayor, one of the drag queens who starred in the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

The news that Jade, whose real name is David Sotomayor Jr., was involved in a fatal car accident that left her needing emergency medical care was reported by Drag Crave, a fan-operated social media account dedicated to all of the Drag Race franchises.

“Jade Sotomayor has reportedly been involved in a fatal car accident and remains in critical condition,” the post reads. “Please send support to her friends and family at this time.”

It is unclear from the post how many people were in the car at the time of the accident and who passed away as a result.

Jade is best known for making waves on the first season of Drag Race where she was not only the first queen to perform the splits during a lip-sync battle, but was also the show’s first Latina contestant.

Few details have been released yet about the car accident or the 41-year-old performer's condition, but season 4 queen DiDa Ritz posted her condolences on X (formerly Twitter).

“I want to send love and support to the family of Jade Sotomayor. She was in a serious car accident. I’m keeping her in my thoughts and hoping for her recovery during this difficult time.”

DiDa and Jade were not on the same season of Drag Race, but they have co-hosted shows together at Hamburger Mary’s in Andersonville.
