The nominees for the 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards have been announced, and The Advocate, Out, and Plus, sibling publications, are each nominated for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage. Out won the award last year, and The Advocate won the award the two years prior.
Reporter at The Advocate, Ryan Adamczeski, is nominated for Outstanding Print Article for the November/December cover story "Meet the young transgender teens changing America and the world."
The Advocateās senior national reporter, Christopher Wiggins, is nominated for Outstanding Online Journalism Article for āMissouri Republican's antigay slur-filled posts remain on Instagram despite violating Metaās policies."
The nominees, announced Wednesday morning, reflect work published, released, or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2024. GLAAD announced 303 nominees across 33 categories this year and has updated the Outstanding Blog category to Outstanding Independent Journalism.
āThe GLAAD Media Awards were created nearly four decades ago to champion LGBTQ stories amid a deeply hostile and unsafe time for our community. Today, this mission holds true and ever-more important as attacks against LGBTQ people are not only growing, but finding new avenues," GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement.
"Whether itās rampant misinformation or defamation of transgender people, LGBTQ youth, or the shocking corporate rollback of policies and programs that keep LGBTQ people seen and safe in a workforce, what will always prevail is our truth and talent," Ellis said. "This yearās nominees for the 36th GLAAD Media Awards represent the best of our vibrant community, spanning across all media, genres and mediums, and send a loud and global message to industry leaders that our stories are not only popular and entertaining, but necessary and culture-changing.ā
The 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will take place in Los Angeles on March 27, 2025. Scroll for the full list of nominees.
