After weeks of teasing, Converse has just released a subtle redesign of its classic Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker, the first major change made by the brand in 98 years, according to Time.
Jim Calhoun, president and CEO of Converse, explained that the Chuck Taylor All Star II would garner "not just a new sneaker, but a new way of thinking" for the brand.
So what's new? A fully embroidered All Star patch, and monochrome matte eyelets are some of the smalls changes made in the redesign. As for the interior of the shoe, the soles have been cushioned with Lunarlon sockliners (similar to those found on Nike running shoes) for a more comfortable fit.
There's also made a padded collar, a redesigned tongue, and micro-suede lining, giving the sneaker a slicker, more premium aspect overall, while keeping the same winning silhouette.
In an interview with Fortune, Calhoun discussed the redesign, saying: "The expectations of kids is that things will be broken in, ready to use, super comfortable, super functional from the minute it leaves the store."
The new sneakers launch today in black, red, blue, and white. Learn more on Converse's redesign here.
