She’ll appear in a two-episode arc this season that ABC hopes to expand into its own show.

Niecy Nash is coming to ABC.

According to Deadline, ABC has ordered a two-episode backdoor pilot arc of their show The Rookie that will introduce a new character, played by Niecy Nash, that they hope to spin off into her own show.

The Rookie, currently in its fourth season, stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD. This season will feature two back-to-back episodes guest-starring Niecy Nash as Simone Clark, a "force of nature, the living embodiment of a dream deferred - and the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy."

The episodes will serve as a backdoor pilot for what ABC hopes to be a new show starring Nash. Her character is further described as a single mom of two "who put her dreams on hold to make sure her kids pursued their own," and someone who "has never shied away from a challenge or a fight."

The two episodes of The Rookie guest-starring Nash will follow Nolan and the LA division of the FBI as they enlist the help of FBI trainee Clark, when one of her former students is suspected of terrorism following an explosion at a local power station.

Deadline also reports that the two episodes will also introduce three other guest stars who could become regular characters on the spinoff if it gets picked up.

"I'm so excited to guest star on The Rookie and bring Simone Clark to life," Nash said. "She is a spirited and spicy fish out of water. The cast is amazing and I can't wait to play."

Nash married her wife, musician Jessica Betts in 2020, and ever since, has been living her absolute best life. Apart from constantly posting amazing pics of her life with Jessica on Instagram, she just finished starring in the show Claws, which aired its final season this year.
