American Horror Story has done it all: sexy ghosts, Nazi doctors, bitchy witches, conjoined twins, fabulous vampires, undead colonizers, Jill Stein voters, and even the end of the world. But this season the show is covering a classic horror trope it's somehow never gotten around to: classic '80s slasher movies.
In the first trailer for American Horror Story: 1984, we're introduced to a group of young aerobic instructors (love that for them) played by Apocalypse star Cody Fern, longtime AHS favorite Emma Roberts, Booksmart's Billie Lourd, Dear White People's DeRon Horton, and Olympian Gus Kenworthy (in his first acting role). Fern's character tells the group that he's going to spend the summer working at a sleepaway camp and invites them along. Soon, the gang is at introduced to Pose's Angelica Ross, who seems to be HBIC at the summer camp -- which, she explains, was once the scene of the "worst summer massacre of all time."
We're also introduced to this season's big bad, slasher, Mr. Jingles. "My cousin told me that the dude they're looking slashed her throat," Fern's character says. "The cops are going to find him, right," asks Roberts' worried camper. I'm thinking the answer is... no.
AHS: 1984 will be the first season of the show not to feature longtime leads Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who are both sitting this installment out. But Ryan Murphy always has a few surprise cameos up his sleeve for AHS, so who knows what might happen?
American Horror Story: 1984premieres September 18 on FX.
