‘Drag Race,’ ‘Queer Eye’ Lead First Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards

Drag Race Critics Choice Reality TV Awards

Just proving that queer people are reality TV icons.

Turns out queer people are just better at reality TV than everybody else ... but, we been knew.

A brand-new awards ceremony, the Critics' Choice Real TV Awards, have just been announced and RuPaul's Drag Race leads its long slate of nominees with five nominations, followed by Netflix's Queer Eye with four, Variety reports. Drag Race garnered nominations for competition series, ensemble cast in an unscripted series, and male star of the year for RuPaul. Queer Eye was recognized in the ensemble cast in an unscripted series category, as well, as well as lifestyle show: fashion/beauty and structured series categories. Jonathan Van Ness will go head-to-head against RuPaul in the male star of the year category.

As a side note, both Drag Race and Queer Eye are going up against Real Housewives of New York in the ensemble cast in an unscripted series category and that's gay rights.

The awards ceremony is co-organized by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association and NPACT, which recognizes excellence in unscripted programming.

While the awards themselves are very gay, their air date is hard to get behind. The show airs on VH1 on Sunday, June 9, the same night as the return of HBO's Big Little Lies and the Tony Awards.
