The First Trailer for FX’s Fosse/Verdon Is Here
Michelle Williams channels Roxie Hart with jazz hands and a pussycat wig.
As someone who has seen Chicago roughly 600 times, I'm a big fan of skinny women with short hair straddling chairs while shaking out their jazz hands (and also murdering people). So naturally, I was a little shook last night when the first teaser trailer for FX's upcoming limited series Fosse/Verdon debuted during the Golden Globes. Maybe more than a little, if I'm being honest.
The show centers around legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, played by Three Billboards star Sam Rockwell, and his relationship with muse and lover Gwen Verdon in the 1950s, played by the other Michelle Williams. According to FX, "Fosse/Verdon will tell the story of these two brilliant, complicated individuals -- the love they shared, the art they created, and the price they paid in the pursuit of greatness." It's produced in part by Lin-Manuel Miranda, so expect it to double down on the musical theater shenanigans.
The teaser trailer is light on dialogue but heavy on Michelle Williams dancing in pussycat wigs (Monet X Change's impact). There's also plenty of synchronized finger snapping, moody red and blue lighting, choreography involving bowler hats, fishnet tights, ominous bottles of pills and garter belts. It's almost like debuting this trailer during the Golden Globes was a warning, or a premonition of things to come. 2020 Golden Globes, Michelle Williams is in a wig and she is coming for you! Probably Sam Rockwell, too!
