Is this the end? We won't know for sure until HBO makes a final call on whether or not to renew Lookingfor at least one more -- and if they did, likely final -- season. So, for a show that got off to a slow start, packed season 2 with as much plot as an episode of Glee, and eventually won over gay audiences (its harshest critics), Looking closes with an emotional punch that may very well be the last we see of Agustin, Dom, Doris, Richie, and Patrick.
To quote Kevin, here's "to moving in and moving on" -- words that are prophetic for many reasons.
In the final chapter of season 2, Patrick and Kevin complete the arc of their romance. What started as light flirting in season 1 boils over with emotion as the pair realizes they have very, very different views of their relationship. And herein lies the biggest problem with Kevin and Patrick: They never once checked in with each other to establish what they are.
When Patrick discovers Kevin is on Grindr, it leads the two down a road of sexual history -- and Patrick wasn't the only one Kevin did "little things" with when he was still with Jon. It's clear that these discretions weren't part of an open arrangement.
So on the night of the move-in day, Kevin reveals he wants a relationship without lying, which is not to say they are exclusive.
After a heated discussion with "cunt" bombs and real talk -- apparently, the first the couple has had up until this point -- they are left wanting different things and Patrick walking out the door.
Though moving in together doesn't come without its lighter moments. There's Kevin aggressive bottoming.
Sex parties on the fifth floor.
Seriously, they're a friendly bunch.
And Kevin Costner. (OK, Lynn.)
Ultimately, it's unclear if Patrick and Kevin are over. All we do know is that Patrick winds up at Richie's door. (Well, technically, in his barber's chair.)
And Patrick and Kevin weren't the only two to take a brutally honest look at their relationship. Dom and Doris realize that they need to end their "fag and his hag" dynamic and step out on their own. But the key difference is that they are doing it together.
They may not be roommates, but they will be friends with the benefit of each other's understanding and undying care, allowing both Dom and Doris to finally grow up.
While season 2 may be over, we'll always have the GIFs -- and if there was one gif(t) that kept on giving, it was Kevin's butt. Thanks Andrew Haigh for exploiting Russell Tovey's slappable ass.
And pinchable nipples.
