Must-Do: Supercinema Pride Party Benefitting Pulse Victims & Gun Safety

Loren Wohl

Grab your ruby slippers, this party is Wizard of Oz themed!

We've raved about Supercinema before, the monthly party created by Sleep No More's McKittrick Hotel. Now the party returns this weekend with a little more courage, heart, and brains than ever before.

The party will channel The Wizard of Oz, the iconic classic nearly every queer grew up watching and undoubtedly loves. In light of the Orlando shooting, a portion of the night's ticket proceeds will benefit Equality Florida Pulse Victims Funds and Everytown for Gun Safety. So attendees can celebrate their pride, while also honoring our queer brothers and sisters who tragically passed.

A McKittrick Hotel representative elegantly said:

"This month's Supercinema was conceived and scheduled with NYC Pride Weekend in mind, in celebration of our LGBT friends and allies. The recent events in Orlando make it essential that we not only celebrate the LGBT community but also raise awareness for the struggles the community still faces against violent, hate-filled members of society, many of whom have easy access to assault weapons. We are honored to be able to benefit Equality Florida and Everytown for Gun Safety, two organizations that work tirelessly to shine a light on the challenges still facing not only the LGBT community but all Americans impacted by hate crimes and gun violence."

Orlando-Based performer Detox of RuPaul's Drag Race will be making a special appearance during the night. Detox frequently performed at Pulse nightclub, the site of the shooting. "Never in my life have I been more proud to be a fluttering, eyebrow-less, freak of nature," she says, "Never! Orlando made me into what I am today. Pulse gave me that first initial springboard to say 'You can do this!' and I will continue to do this."

The event takes place Saturday, June 25 at 10:30 PM at the McKittrick Hotel. Purchase tickets here and watch a trailer for the evening below:
