Vega had been in contention to become the first transgender actress nominated for an Academy Award herself.

Daniela Vega, star of the critically-acclaimed A Fantastic Woman, will make history as the first trans woman ever to present an award at the Oscars next month.

Vega had been in contention to become the first transgender actress nominated for an Academy Award herself, though in the end A Fantastic Woman scored only the nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

A Fantastic Woman follows the story of a woman named Marina, whose lover, Orlando, dies. She's rejected from Orlando's family while trying to grieve and mourn in the wake of his passing.
