Ricky Martin, Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, Darren Criss, and Max Greenfield are all set to start in the series, which will premiere in 2018, after American Crime Story's second season, which will focus on the government's response in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Of course, as with any production based on true events, Versace has drawn criticism from people who lived through the tragedy, most notably Antonio D'Amico, the real life former lover of Gianni Versace. "The picture of Ricky Martin holding the body in his arms is ridiculous," D'Amico told The Observer after seeing behind the scenes photos. "Maybe it's the director's poetic license, but that is not how I reacted. There has been so much written about the murder, and thousands of suppositions, but not a trace of reality."
