Photos have emerged online this week of actress Penelope Cruz dressed as Donatella Versace, the Italian designer icon and sister of the late Gianni Versace. Wearing a platinum blonde wig, fake tan and '90s-inspired leather look, Cruz is shown on set filming scenes for Ryan Murphy's new FX installment, Versace: American Crime Story, which follows the infamous Miami murder of Gianni in 1997.
Production for Murphy's latest is currently underway in Florida, where the cast is shooting the 10-episode season. Based on the book Vulgar Favors by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth, Versace: American Crime Story will document the build up, assassination and aftermath of Gianni's murder, executed by American serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
In addition to Cruz, Edgar Ramirez will play Gianni, Darren Criss will star as Cunanan and Ricky Martin will take on Gianni's lover Antonio D'Amico. Versace: American Crime Story follows Murphy's Emmy-winning People V. O.J. Simpson and forthcoming FX installment Katrina, which outlines the trauma of 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
