The new script will focus on the chaos in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and, specifically, the city's Memorial Medical Center.

American Crime Story: Katrina is getting a major overhaul. The show, which is the third season of Ryan Murphy's award-winning anthology series, is being reworked to adapt Sheri Fink's book Five Days At Memorial, as opposed to its previous source material: The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley. Frequent Murphy collaborator Sarah Paulson is still attached as the show's star.

The previous direction of Katrina had already announced the casting of Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick, and Dennis Quaid, all of whom are no longer expected to be involved. The show was originally supposed to air as the second season of the series, but was bumped back to accomodate the creation of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which will air in early 2018.

The new script will focus on the chaos in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and, specifically, the city's Memorial Medical Center. After the storm, the hospital had no power for several days, leading doctors and nurses to euthanize more than 24 patients in terminal condition. Dr. Anna Pou, as well as two Intensive Care nurses, ended up being charged with second degree murder for the morphine they injected into patients' systems.

The show comes in the wake of American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, which was nominated for 22 awards at the 68th Annual Emmy Awards, and won 9, more than any other show. That included Best Lead Actress for Sarah Paulson and Best Limited Series.
