Revisit Prince's Most Iconic Videos Before His Estate's First Battle of the Bands

Prince

The late singer's music videos & performances are streaming online, right now.

It's a testament to Prince's hatred for YouTube that, for years, it was easier to find a video of a Chihuahua choking on a piece of spaghetti than it was to find his music videos. In a series of tweets, the late singer even explained why he passionately disliked the video sharing website, stating: "Since YouTube doesn't pay equitable licensing fees, isn't that a nonsensical question?"

The times have changed and, a year after his death, we're finally able to mourn his artistry without resorting to the black market. Several of his music videos and live performances have made their way onto YouTube and Vevo under an official account. There are the videos for Purple Rain classics like "Let's Go Crazy" and "When Doves Cry," and a handful of live videos that remind us why Prince was such a legend.

These releases aren't the only reintroduction to his biggest hits. There was a recent reissue of Purple Rain, which featured unreleased material and a concert film, as well as the catalogue of Prince albums going live on streaming services after being exclusive to Tidal. Now, that Prince-themed party of your dreams can become a reality.

Don't spend too long watching Prince tear up the screen in those classic videos, though. Prince's estate Paisley Park just announced their first Battle of the Bands competition, which may finally dethrone Freaky Friday as the coolest battle of the bands ever. The competition will be called Musicology, after the 2004 Prince album, and has a grand prize that includes recording time in Prince's studio, a "mentorship session" with members of Prince's New Power Generation band, and "additional career development opportunities soon to be announced."
