In 3 Generations, Elle Fanning plays Ray, a teenage trans boy living with his single mother (Naomi Watts), his grandmother (Susan Sarandon), and his grandmother's girlfriend (Linda Emond) in New York. As Ray transitions, his family struggles to adjust. Meanwhile, his mother must persuade Ray's estranged father (Tate Donovan) to give his legal consent, which brings up some family secrets that only complicate things further.
