Disney Working On New Adaptation of The Lion King
Will it be nostalgically soothing, or childhood rending?
For better or worse, Disney has its sights set on remaking some of their most iconic films spanning the company's lifetime.
After reimagining classics like Cinderella and The Jungle Book into successful live-action versions, Disney has announced that the next title it gives the 21st century treatment to will be one of its most beloved: The Lion King.
The company announced today that director Jon Favreau, fresh off his successful turn with this year's The Jungle Book, and the announcement of a sequel, will be back in the chair to helm the return to Pride Rock, which will feature songs from the original animated film from 1994.
Skepticism is understandable, but Disney diehards should reserve judgment at least until Beauty and the Beast releases this spring. It will be the first of the live-action remakes to directly include songs from the original production and can give us an idea of what they have planned for The Lion King and beyond.
