Arnold Schwarzenegger Says His Father Beat Him Over Concerns He Was Gay
The actor idolized bodybuilders from a young age – and that was a problem.
Like most teenagers, Arnold Schwarzenegger's childhood bedroom was draped with posters of his idols. Unfortunately for him, his father looked at a bedroom full of images of half-naked weightlifters and bodybuilders and immediately jumped to the conclusion that his son was gay.
According to Gay Star News, in an interview with Xposure, the future Terminator star said: "he ran after me with a belt and beat me."
"I don't know if mum thought I was gay, or if she just thought something was off and thought 'let's catch it early," he continued. "She asked the doctor, 'Can you help me? I don't know if there's something wrong with my song because his wall is full of naked men. All of Arnold's friends have pictures of girls above their bed. And Arnold has no girls.'"
The movie-star-turned-governor didn't always have a friendly track record when it came to pro-LGBT legislation, vetoing same-sex marriage bills in 2005 and 2007, but later performed two same-sex ceremonies.
