MTV announced at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that they're renewing Scream for a second season. The show is an adaptation of the seminal 1996 teen slasher film of the same name, and stars newcomers Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and John Karna.
Although the TV adaptation noticeably lacks any connection to the original franchise, including director Wes Craven's signature horror expertise, it attempts to reboot the genre for a generation obsessed with social media and Pretty Little Liars. Most of the characters seem to be cookie-cutter versions of those immortalized by Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, and Drew Barrymore, but there's added LGBT appeal thanks to Taylor-Klaus, who plays an adorable, heartbroken lesbian you can't help but root for.
With a second season inevitably on the horizon, one question remains: Will your favorite character live or succomb to a sneaky attack by the masked killer? To be continued.
