On June 15, at TrevorLIVE NY, the Trevor Project awarded Sir Ian McKellen with the Trevor Hero Award in honor of his continuous support and advocacy for LGBT rights and awareness. At the event, as Playbill reports, McKellen delivered an ardent Shakespearean speech as a means to shed light on the importance of LGBT equality.
In his speech, McKellen quotes Shakespeare in Sir Thomas More to emphasize the experiences of LGBT people and the importance of understanding their experiences and the necessity for equality.
