The Merce Cunningham Trust’s YouTube channel makes for fascinating viewing.
Whether you're a neophyte curious to learn more or a nostalgic fan of Merce Cunningham's contemporary take on movement , there's a new way to experience the work of the late, great dance legend who died in 2009. The master of the ephemeral is now archived on YouTube.
As the New York Times recently explained, the channel began as a platform Nancy Dalva, the Merce Cunningham Trust's resident scholar, to share her mini-documentary series, "Mondays with Merce." But she's also uploaded footage of Cunningham's musings on topics from John Cage to the sunset outside his West Village studio.
"I want people to be able to see the work as Merce made it and as the dancers rehearsed it," Ms. Dalva told the Times. "The world of his work was a place where we lived, and this is a way to revisit it."
