A gay-positive song from the rising star makes her enemy of the far-right and a hero of GLAAD.

Country star Kacey Musgraves is making waves with her new song "Follow Your Arrow" thanks to its message of acceptance. The song--wich lyrics like "Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys/ Or kiss lots of girls, if that's something that you're into"--is riling conservatives and also netting her a spot at GLAAD's upcoming awards ceremony in New York City.

The song, off her album Same Trailer, Different Park, was greeted with hostility by Colorado pastor Kevin Swanson, who said in a radio broadcast that Musgraves was promoting homosexuality and would have been killed if she performed the song in an earlier time.

"If she had sang [sic] that thing in a country bar in the 1920s or 1880s in Denver, Colorado, somebody would've called for a rope," he said, according to The Huffington Post. "She would not have made it out of town."

Musgraves, a 25-year-old Texas native who's already performed at the Grammys, will perform "Follow Your Arrow" at the GLAAD Media Awards on May 3 in New York City. Musgraves will be introduced by out country singer Chely Wright.

"America's heartland is changing and support for equality continues to grow across party lines, in our faith institutions, and in country music," GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement. "Kacey Musgraves is ushering in a new era in the country music industry, where supporting all loving families is now a core country value. It's only fitting then that Kacey is to become the first country music artist to perform at the New York GLAAD Media Awards."
