Scenes from New York City's Women's Marches

New York played host to two marches for gender equality Saturday, as people all over the country took to the streets to both celebrate the progress of the women's movement and remind each other of how much progress is yet to be made. The Women's March Alliance event brought in thousands, hoisting their signs and flipping the bird as throngs passed some of President Donald Trump's gilded buildings. The mood was notably less loud than years prior; a little less vibrant, but still strong.
Downtown at Foley Square at the heart of New York's municipal center, a contingent affiliated with the beleaguered Women's March organization rallied, with a smaller crowd that nonetheless seemed booming with sound at some points (while also featuring some attendees with signs calling out the allegations of anti-Semitism lodged at some of the head organizers of the national committee). In either case, it's clear women are both energized by their social, political, and intersectional accomplishments since Trump's inauguration, but also, quite exhausted. Here are some highlights from the day.
