Before we tell you anything more about this club night at the Museum of Sex, a statement from the producer, Jessa Angel:
"The word 'cunt' in the queer language is one of reconfiguration. It's like many words that a certain group, race, or culture takes back so that it may own it instead of the word being derogatory. Mainly taken back for the use of queer women, trans or otherwise. It's used as a form of compliment with a bit of shock to it. For example, 'Your outfit tonight is so cunty!', or, "That club was cunt!" It's similar to the word fierce or amazing."
We hope this calms any concerns you have about the use of the c-word here. It's a word used in museums, after all.
TropiCunt is an Afro-Latina Queer POC party. Think Caribbean, Latin American, Spanish, all out chic dance party. Aiming to make people sweat, lose themselves, carry, and do it all in a cunty atmosphere. TropiCunt is also about highlighting some amazing POC people within our community. TropiCunt is about impact!
Jessa Angel is a producer, host, and curator for events around the city. A trans Chicana, you will find her lighting up the dance floor. She is going on a year at The Museum of Sex as the event coordinator. This is where she aims to make a queer haven for everyone, TropiCunt being no exception.
The launch was on July 21st. The first two events of this new weekly party will be on a Saturdays, starting August 3, they will be on Fridays, 10 p.m. -- 4 a.m.
