“Varied, interesting, exciting” is how James Longman humbly describes his work. As the chief international correspondent for ABC News, he’s reported from over 60 countries, including conflict zones in Ukraine, Syria, and Israel. “When you’re in the middle of extraordinary events — like the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, or in St. Peter’s Square for the announcement of the first American pope — it sure is exciting.”
The out London-based reporter has dedicated his career to covering major conflicts and human rights issues around the globe, always centering the stories of the people involved. He’s received a David Bloom Award for his investigative work on LGBTQ+ abuses in Chechnya, and his recent book, The Inherited Mind, examines the genetics behind mental illness — even delving into his own family’s mental health history.
Longman is also excited about his new hosting gig on What You Need to Know, a daily news roundup on Disney+ “that gives you all the main headlines in under 10 minutes. It feels good to be embracing the future with ABC and Disney.” @jamesaalongman
