As president of the National LGBTQ Task Force (and the first Black woman to lead the group), Kierra Johnson helps harness grassroots power for greater LGBTQ+ liberation. “My life’s work has been about creating a world where we are all able to think, move, live, and love freely,” Johnson explains. She credits her team for advancing this mission. “I get to learn from their brilliance, and that makes me a better champion for the community.”
At present, the pansexual leader and mother of three is gearing up for Creating Change 2026 in Washington, D.C., a conference that will bring together thousands of activists to mobilize the LGBTQ+ movement amid uncertain times. Johnson reminds that “resilience, strength, and abundance” live in each of us. And she hopes that “we take every opportunity to acknowledge power in each other and together commit to wielding that collective power in the name of boundless love and care for all people.”
