Owen Thiele long referred to himself as a “nepo friend” due to his close relationships with A-listers like Emma Chamberlain and Sabrina Carpenter. (You may recall him from Carpenter’s Christmas special or Taylor Swift’s music videos for “The Man” and “You Need to Calm Down.”)
But the gay actor and singer is making his own mark in Hollywood. After a memorable role as a costume designer in Theater Camp, Thiele appeared in two acclaimed shows this year: Adults, a Hulu ensemble about 20-something New Yorkers, and Overcompensating, in which he portrayed George, a barista and queer classmate of Benny’s who clocks his closeted troubles from a mile away.
Thiele describes his work as feeling “like sex on the beach — glamorous most of the time, but sometimes you chafe.” He’s overjoyed to have made “lifelong friends” along the way.
“Let's all make a pact to stay queer,” Thiele says of his message to the world. @owenthiele
