It’s little surprise that Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters became the most-watched Netflix original title in the streamer’s history with over 300 million views. Much of that can be attributed to the movie’s indelible songs, which have become hits on their own. Seven of those songs were co-written by out songwriter Mark Sonnenblick.
The standout number, “Golden,” written by EJAE and Sonnenblick and performed by the fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X, took the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in August and made history as the first song by a women's K-pop group to achieve that feat.
“I'm proud that the songs from KPDH have such a positive message about acceptance and connection without being overly simplistic,” Sonnenblick says. “I’m proud that they’re resonating, and I’m proud of everyone I got to work with who poured their heart into this movie.”
While the world waits for a sequel, Sonnenblick is focusing on a few new projects he has in the works, including a stage adaptation of Andrew Haigh's Weekend and a soon-to-be-announced musical in London. @sonnen_blick
