The Moment: July 4, 1976: The first Dykes on Bikes ride at San Francisco Pride takes place.

Whipping Girl, Serano's 2007 manifesto, discussed, among other topics, her experiences facing bigotry as a trans woman. A staple of gender studies courses, it was assigned reading this year for the cast and crew of Jill Soloway's new Amazon series, Transparent, influencing mainstream pop culture in an entirely new way.
