OUT100: Zebra Katz

Performance Artist and Musician

Photography by JUCO | Retouching by Anna Glen at Wet Noodle

The Moment: 1982: The "Godfather of Vogue," Willi Ninja, forms the House of Ninja.

A paragon of the queer hip-hop scene, Zebra Katz (real name: Ojay Morgan) snagged serious buzz in 2012 when his debut single, "Ima Read" (a tribute to the documentary Paris Is Burning), was chosen by designer Rick Owens for the soundtrack of his runway show at Paris Fashion Week. With a string of other delirious clips under his belt ("1 Bad B*tch," "Tear The House Up"), Katz is riding the wave of his budding success and preparing the release of his first LP. He's busy, but not so much that he can't pause to acknowledge today's state of LGBT affairs. "Right now, there's a lot happening in America," Katz says. "We have to take this moment to fully enrich ourselves, and show what we want to stand for."

Photographed at the Hollywood Loft on October 7, 2014
