Yutani, artistic director for Outfest Los Angeles and a programmer for the Sundance Film Festival, first went to Sundance in 1995 to see Gregg Araki's The Doom Generation, on which she'd worked as an assistant. She told Indiewire, "It was an influential year for independent films for me, and I knew I wanted to be involved in that world." After writing film reviews for a weekly publication in Atlanta, she volunteered as a screener for the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. "That's when I decided I really wanted to be a film programmer." This year, Outfest celebrated its 30th anniversary with a bang, screening acclaimed films like Interior. Leather Bar., Test, Bridegroom, and God Loves Uganda.
