Out100: Light Asylum

Musicians.

Photography by M. Sharkey

The cobweb-covered goth pop that Light Asylum creates has been hailed by The New York Times as "the future of New York dance music." If the duo's self-titled debut album and packed European tour schedule this year are any indication, Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello could be the future of indie dance music, period. Equipped with Funchess's androgynous contralto and Coviello's sparkling synths, the pair come off like a tortured, rock-bottom Yaz, or as Funchess eloquently describes their sound, "It's like a dark cloud with a silver lining."
