Lesbian visibility has never been just one story, and International Lesbian Day is a chance to celebrate all of them.
From today’s pop stars and actors proudly claiming the word “lesbian” to the ordinary lives captured in photographs decades ago, the breadth of lesbian representation is as expansive as the community itself. Stories of contemporary celebrities including Chappell Roan, Reneé Rapp, Hayley Kiyoko, Kehlani, and Brandi Carlile sit alongside JEB’s groundbreaking 1979 photo collection Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians, which documented lesbians working, loving, raising families, and building community. Together, they reflect how lesbian visibility spans generations, from public figures shaping culture today to the everyday lives that have always been part of the story.
Until next time.
