J.K. Rowling has one famous fan who's not turning his back on her despite her nosedive into TERFdom over the last few years: Vladimir Putin.
That's right, the Russian president, currently waging war on Ukraine, spoke recently on TV about his support for Rowling and why he feels a kinship with her.
"They canceled Rowling recently, the children's author. Her books are published all over the world, [but they canceled her] just because she didn't satisfy the demands of gender rights," Putin said.
"They are now trying to cancel our country," he continued, likening himself to the Harry Potter author. "I'm talking about the progressive discrimination of everything to do with Russia." He then compared the "canceling" to Nazis burning books in Germany before World War II.
Putin's comments come after many people have started boycotting Russian products and art following the country's invasion of bordering nation Ukraine.

Strangely, Rowling wasn't happy to get such a high-level endorsement. Putin is definitely the most famous person to come to her defense. Most celebs (and most other people) like Harry Potter star Emma Watson (as well as Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint), Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness, Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne, and former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter have all called Rowling out for her transphobia.
Instead, Rowling put out a flaccid statement against the world leader. "Critiques of Western cancel culture are possibly not best made by those currently slaughtering civilians for the crime of resistance, or who jail and poison their critics," she wrote, adding the hashtag "#IStandWith Ukraine."

Rowling basically said, "I'm a transphobe, but not that kind of transphobe."
When these are your allies, maybe it's time to finally take a look around and realize that you're on the wrong side of history.
There's a classic trans phrase that goes, 'scratch a TERF, find a racist.' Well now, you can add 'scratch a TERF, find a warmongering dictator' to that.
