“I didn’t ever imagine they’d use my sexuality as an excuse not to consider me.”

On Saturday, London actor Joseph Segal received a rejection letter he got from a talent agency that turned him away because of his sexuality. The agent cited a need to "keep a balance."

"Moreover, we already have a gay actor on our books and also a musician/actor of the same age, so we feel there would be a clash," the email said.

"I was confused and then after a while upset," Segal toldPink News. "I didn't ever imagine they'd use my sexuality as an excuse not to consider me."

After Segal's tweet about the letter blew up, the agency sent an email to Segal in which they expressed their shame and regret.

"Thank you for your support and response. The agency will close after a number of its clients leaving," Segal said on Twitter. "This was an inexperienced agency, who I now know, was not a member of the necessary associations. Donations will be made to @LGBTfdn and @MindCharity. I have no further comment."
