Rapper Lil Peep Dies at 21

Lil Peep

The rising New York artist's manager announced the news today on Twitter.

Rising 21-year-old rapper Lil Peep died Wednesday night, November 15, 2017 in Tuscon, Arizona. He was reportedly taken to the hospital following an overdose.

The news was announced by his manager Chase Ortega, who tweeted early Thursday morning, "I've been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck." Ortega's account has since been made private.

Peep's death was later confirmed by First Access Entertainment's Sarah Stennett, who said in a statement, "I am shocked and heartbroken. I do not believe Peep wanted to die. He had big goals and dreams for the future which he had shared with me, his team, his family and his friends."

Peep, who grew up in Long Beach, New York, became famous following a lineup of self-released mixtapes that blurred the lines between aggressive trap production and existential "emo" lyricism. With a massive cult following that spilled into mainstream adoration, Peep released his debut album Come Over When You're Sober (Part One) this year.

The artist publicly came out as bisexual this August, simply tweeting to his fans, "yes I'm bi sexual." He followed the announcement with a flirtacious question, "who wants a kiss."

Celebrities and close friends have already paid tribute to Peep, including Diplo, who wrote on Twitter that Peep "had so much more to do man he was constantly inspiring me." Fellow producer Marshmello added, "Peep was the nicest person. Hanging out with him, talking to him about music, the song ideas we were going to do together and touring was so amazing."
