Hundreds of LBGT students, family, and supporters gathered to celebrate diversity and a new direction toward tolerance.

New York held the city's first school-wide Pride celebration this week for LGBT students and their families.

About 200 gathered at the Tweed Courthouse Tuesday evening to recognize a landmark year for the school system. New York City Schools hired Jared Fox this year as the department's first LGBTQ liaison.

Fox organized Tuesday's event and used the evening to highlight the school system's progress in raising the number of gay-straight alliances among schools and setting up workshops to decrease cases of student harassment.
